What does 1.5” W mean?
The 1.5” W (wide) option is perfect for 3-tie bale flakes. It offers an extra 18" of width compared to our standard 1.5" hole size, giving you more room and an easier fit for wider flakes.

The size of the net hole you choose depends on the type of animal you are feeding, its developmental stage, lifestyle, and what hay type you are providing. See our Net Guide for more information and our Hay Testing page.
general guide below:
1 inch: Ponies, miniature animals, and young mini goats and lambs will all do very well with 1-inch netting.
1.5 inch: This is our most popular size for equines, donkeys, mules, alpacas, goats, sheep, llamas, rabbits, and yes, even chickens!
2 inch: For larger breeds like drafts, warmbloods, working horses, young and older horses, and calves.
2.75 inch: For cattle and horses, when consumption is not an issue, just wanting to keep the hay in the feeder. The 2.75 is a great net, especially in colder climates. It can be used for older horses, growing, working & racehorses, and it works great for cattle. This net needs to be used in a feeder as its larger holes could be a hazard.

When introducing slow hay feeding hay nets, always provide loose hay along with the NAG Bag for the first week. Loose hay feedings assist your animal in learning how to "graze" from the nets properly, minimizes the chance of net damage, and prolong the life of your NAG Bag.
Remember, slow-feeding is only as good as the hay that’s being offered. Meeting the animal's needs is very important, and ensuring that you have the correct hay type will help ensure successful net feeding.

The large-sized hay nets with the highest capacity are Round Bale and Large Square Bales. The capacity of these hay nets is tailored to accommodate the size of bales, measured in feet (width x height).

NAG Bags can be used with shod horses. However, the nets should be placed in a tub, feeder, hay ring, or hung out of the pawing range. We do like to see the net in a lower position, if possible for a more natural foraging position.

I've tried a few different slow feeder bags over the years but nagbags are the best! Love the toggle close and bags are really high quality. We've had some for 3 years and still no holes!

I have had a number of slow feed bags before but the 2" hanging bags I got from you a year and a half ago have really stood up. No rips from annoyed horses and easy feeding for my two seniors. The feature I like the best is the toggle on the strings. No more knotting of strings, struggling to undo frozen ones and re-lacing strings ripped out of bags!
Excellent services, I was advised to get bags with bigger holes because of our cold winters, feed may be harder for the horses to pull out if material gets stiff. I'm glad I did. Bags are holding up well.

Absolutely love the Hanging Nag Bags! They are the perfect size to divide up day and night feeds! They reallly slow my horses down and make the hay last hours longer without frustrating them at all! Just love your hay bags…so easy to fill and hang
These bags serve as my night bags. I have an EMS boy and a PPID boy. I hang 4 bags for each horse in a 24 hour period. Each bag is weighed and the 10:00 pm to 6:30 am bag has 8 pounds of hay in each bag. The bags are perfect for that amount. They are easy to use and very well made.
the hassle I had to go thru to even get it was disgusting
I set up the bags for the horses to slow feed over night. I get some pretty cold nights ( into - 30 C ) at times and these are ideal to ensure my horses have something to keep them busy and warm. The bags are empty each morning!

I’ve been using them for about 6 or 7 years both outside in shelters and inside in barn. They seem to outlast the other brands (last at least a couple years) with no damage from daily use.
