Mid-Day Bag
Holds 4 to 6 flakes
Available in 1", 1.5", 1.5" W, 2", and 2.75" net hole sizes.

When the Hanging Bag feels a bit small and the Day Bag feels a bit too big, the Mid-Day Bag is the perfect in-between. Designed for busy, all-day owners, it comfortably holds four to six flakes of hay and works beautifully for stalls, paddocks, boarding barns, and pasture setups. It’s an ideal option for all-day or all-night grazing, giving your animals steady access to forage in a controlled, waste-reducing way.

Nag Bags help extend hay availability, reduce mess, and keep your grazing animals calmer and more content. Slow feeding supports cleaner environments and may reduce the risk of ulcers, colic, cribbing, stall vices, and inhalant allergies. Placing multiple nets around the feeding area can encourage movement and support a paddock-paradise style routine.

What is 1.5" W?
The extra-wide 1.5" W option is designed for 3-tie bale flakes. It offers an additional 18" of width compared to the standard 1.5" hole size, giving more room for larger, wider flakes.

All our nets come with a strand of twine and toggle!

Things you may consider

  • The size of the net hole you choose depends on the type of animal you are feeding, its developmental stage, lifestyle, and what hay type you are providing. See our Net Guide for more information and our Hay Testing page.

    general guide below:

1 inch: Ponies, miniature animals, and young mini goats and lambs will all do very well with 1-inch netting.

1.5 inch: This is our most popular size for equines, donkeys, mules, alpacas, goats, sheep, llamas, rabbits, and yes, even chickens!

2 inch: For larger breeds like drafts, warmbloods, working horses, young and older horses, and calves.

2.75 inch: For cattle and horses, when consumption is not an issue, just wanting to keep the hay in the feeder. The 2.75 is a great net, especially in colder climates. It can be used for older horses, growing, working & racehorses, and it works great for cattle. This net needs to be used in a feeder as its larger holes could be a hazard.

  • When introducing slow hay feeding hay nets, always provide loose hay along with the NAG Bag for the first week. Loose hay feedings assist your animal in learning how to "graze" from the nets properly, minimizes the chance of net damage, and prolong the life of your NAG Bag.

Remember, slow-feeding is only as good as the hay that’s being offered. Meeting the animal's needs is very important, and ensuring that you have the correct hay type will help ensure successful net feeding.

Visit our Hay Testing and Articles pages to learn more.

  • NAG Bags will benefit all equines, especially for the care of ulcers, colic, cribbing, aggression and nervous horses. Small but frequent meals are your best defence against the formation of ulcers and promote ulcers' healing. Veterinary-recommended NAG Bags support healthy digestion.

  • NAG Bags offers hay nets in various sizes and capacities to accommodate different needs.

The small-sized hay nets typically have the capacity to hold around 1-2 flakes of hay or a smaller quantity suitable for individual servings. These are often convenient for travel or shorter feeding durations.

The medium-sized hay nets have a larger capacity, capable of holding approximately 5-6 or more flakes of hay. These are ideal for extended feeding periods or for multiple horses.

The large-sized hay nets with the highest capacity are Round Bale and Large Square Bales. The capacity of these hay nets is tailored to accommodate the size of bales, measured in feet (width x height).

It's important to note that the exact size and capacity options may vary between different models or product lines offered by NAG Bags. It is recommended to refer to the specific product descriptions or reach out to NAG Bags directly for detailed information on their hay nets' size and capacity specifications.

  • NAG Bags can be used with shod horses. However, the nets should be placed in a tub, feeder, hay ring, or hung out of the pawing range. We do like to see the net in a lower position, if possible for a more natural foraging position.

  • When Nag Bags hay nets are property introduced, our customers find that their horses prefer to forage from the Nag Bag rather than loose hay. Trickle feeding is natural for them, and they know it. Choose the correct net hole size for your animal to match their needs and hay type.

Please view our Net Guide for more information. Still not sure; please call.

  • Our nets are constructed with longevity and animals in mind. Constructed with high-quality knitted nylon blend material ensuring that our slow feeders' hay nets can withstand rigorous use and maintain their integrity over many uses.

Customers praised the hay bags as "virtually indestructible" and "the best slow feed bags on the market." The bags are highly durable, with many lasting 5-10+ years of daily use. Easy to fill with a wide opening and secure toggle closure. Reduces hay waste significantly and promotes healthier eating patterns. Available in multiple sizes and hole options to suit different needs.

changed hay net brands

I switched to the NagBags hay nets from another brand that was knotted and a much rougher texture. My horse uses hay nets nightly now. She is so much happier with a softer net! The net has a soft texture but is still very strong. I expect it to hold up a very long time. The folks at NagBags were so very nice and helpful also. They are very responsive if you have questions- a real caring person- not AI!

The only bag I buy

I first learned about Nag Bags at the Cal Expo in CA at the Horse Expo years ago. I ordered one bag and from then on won’t buy any other hay bag. I love the slow feed bags for my horses for better digestion, weight gain and lack of hay waste. I get the 1 inch day bag and I love the size and durability of the bag. It’s easy to fill and the tying is easy and holds tight. My bags encounter rain, snow and heat and hold up great :) I love my Nag Bags

Really like the quality of the bag. So far it’s holding up well. I like the closure. Would be amazing if it had an attachement ring at the bottom too tho. Thanks!

So far so great!

The barn where I board my horse is thrilled with this bag. I'll certainly update my review when we see if it needs repairs as often as the last one... But so far it is going great! My horse is happy, and the owners are also happy. What's not to like?

Wow

We had bought these previously from a store and they were great, however I bought from the website and they came and wow even better !!! Solid nice material easy to use, they open so easy and it is really easy to put in the hay / alfalfa in. I think they are a bit bigger but so worth it.

Great bags and definitely well made. I tried the feed bags that were sewn together, and they were a huge disappointment! I couldn’t repair them without ripping the whole thing apart and there was a concern with the horses digesting loose threads. With the nag bags, I don’t worry about loose threads and any tears are easily repaired. Great for saving hay and there is very little waste. Also, it has helped immensely for the one horse, who is allergic to the dust in loose hay and has eliminated the cough that he had. I wish I had purchased these first!

Nag bags are amazing

I absolutely love these bags, they’re virtually indestructible, and the odd time the horses do manage to create a hole it’s easily fixed using the repair twine. These bags are great to control intake. I always use them for nighttime feedings so it lasts longer. They come in a variety of sizes and you can choose hole sizes, as well , would highly recommend.

First haynet

The mid day 2 3/4" was the introduction nag bag for Cooper, a percheron / quarter horse cross. He adapted easily and there was much less waste outside the feeder. I now have two additional 2" day bags. I love the nag bags because Cooper can access hay 24/7 without gaining excess weight or wasting a lot of hay. It's healthier for Cooper and a more relaxed, natural way of feeding.

Nag Bags

These are by far the very best hay bags around. They are solid. My mare, who lives for food, has not been able to tear or eat through these bags. I have the 1" slow feeders. The tie cords are sturdy and the gripper lock allows you to tighten the bag and then tie it wherever you want. I've been using these bags daily for 2 yrs. They are well worth the money.

Day bags

Highly recommend these nets, they're high quality, durable and last a LONG time. I have 2 geldings, and just bought 2 more day bags so that I can conveniently fill all 4 each morning (via a round bale) and then put out 2 in the AM and 2 in the evening.

Revised review

Well I need to amend my review. Mandy did call me and provided helpful information. For some reason, although I live in VA the purchase was stuck in small town California but did finally arrive. Not Nag Bags fault or something they could correct. I do plan to order another smaller bag. Now if I could figure out how to delete my old review….,. Not a very tech oriented old person.

THE best way to feed!

Nag Bags are extremely well built slow feeding hay bags. They allow my horses to feed as they have evolved to do so, trickle feeding food into their stomachs on a near continual basis. My horses do well with the one inch nets, and the bags allow them to have access to hay 24-7. Thanks for the great product!
