The size of the net hole you choose depends on the type of animal you are feeding, its developmental stage, lifestyle, and what hay type you are providing. See our Net Guide for more information and our Hay Testing page.
general guide below:
1 inch: Ponies, miniature animals, and young mini goats and lambs will all do very well with 1-inch netting.
1.5 inch: This is our most popular size for equines, donkeys, mules, alpacas, goats, sheep, llamas, rabbits, and yes, even chickens!
2 inch: For larger breeds like drafts, warmbloods, working horses, young and older horses, and calves.
2.75 inch: For cattle and horses, when consumption is not an issue, just wanting to keep the hay in the feeder. The 2.75 is a great net, especially in colder climates. It can be used for older horses, growing, working & racehorses, and it works great for cattle. This net needs to be used in a feeder as its larger holes could be a hazard.

When introducing slow hay feeding hay nets, always provide loose hay along with the NAG Bag for the first week. Loose hay feedings assist your animal in learning how to "graze" from the nets properly, minimizes the chance of net damage, and prolong the life of your NAG Bag.
Remember, slow-feeding is only as good as the hay that’s being offered. Meeting the animal's needs is very important, and ensuring that you have the correct hay type will help ensure successful net feeding.

The large-sized hay nets with the highest capacity are Round Bale and Large Square Bales. The capacity of these hay nets is tailored to accommodate the size of bales, measured in feet (width x height).

NAG Bags can be used with shod horses. However, the nets should be placed in a tub, feeder, hay ring, or hung out of the pawing range. We do like to see the net in a lower position, if possible for a more natural foraging position.

Our nets are constructed with longevity and animals in mind. Constructed with high-quality knitted nylon blend material ensuring that our slow feeders' hay nets can withstand rigorous use and maintain their integrity over many uses.
Customers praised this durable round bale hay net for significantly reducing waste and lasting years. "Amazing!!" said one, noting it saves "a tonne of waste." The soft material is gentle on horses' muzzles while slowing feeding effectively. Multiple hole sizes accommodate different needs. One concern: the rope can expand with moisture, making it difficult to thread through connectors.
The large round bag is working well for us. There is less waste than our previous set up which entailed large hole panels which surrounded the bale. Getting the bag on the bale is a little tricky, We raise the bale off the ground with the tractor forks and pull bag over the end of the bale, then drop the bale so the bottom of the bale is sitting on the bottom of the bag. Then move the bale to it's proper location, inside a 3 sided shelter. We then lower the bag from the bale, remove the bale netting and then quickly raise the bag over the bale again. It's a bit tricky and you have to be fast before the bale starts to fall apart. Hope that made sense. We use a ½ inch rope (attached to roof) to take the slack out of the nag bag and continue to adjust the rope as the bale gets smaller. We are feeding alpacas and several alpacas can eat at the same time. There is still some waste, but much less than before. Overall we are happy with the nag bag, we have bought our second one now, and are considering a third one. They are a little expensive, but I can appreciate why.

Easy to put on the bale, fit's like a glove, it's soft and gentle on my horses muzzles, easy for them to graze. This is a great quality product and well worth the cost for the money you save in wasted hay.
I am a bit delayed in reviewing but the NagBag is amazing!! We went for the small 1" squares for our dwarf goat herd and it is saving us from a tonne of waste while the goats are still thriving and feeding.
I really appreciated the personal note with my order and would recommend to anyone looking for a great product and great company.

Love this bale net. It is the 4th large round bale net I have ordered from Nagbags. I ordered the 2 inch hole size this time because of the very cold weather we have in Saskatchewan. I wanted my 6 horses to have easier access to their hay so they have constant food in their stomachs and stay warm from the inside out. I like how nagbag nets hold up well in all kinds of weather. I also have 9 square bale nets of various sizes for inside the barn and trailer. They are anywhere from 4 years to 1 year old and I have never had a hole in them. Fantastic company to deal with and I highly recommend them.
I bought 2 small square bale bags with 1.5" holes a year ago and I love them for camping. Just bought a 6x6 with same holes for 4x5.5' round bale. I bought a 6x6 bag but probably a 5x5 would have been large enough, however it works. The netting seems to be quite durable and I thought the smaller holes would annoy my overindulging mares but they seem happy with it. My last round bale net had 2" holes.

This is my second 2.75” hay het I have purchased. Super happy with them, keeps the hay contained but lets them eat all they want. Definitely recommend!!
This is the second hay net that I've purchased. The first was from another company and my new one is a Nag bag. I have 2 netted bales in the field and they will not eat from the old one. They are however, super happy to eat from the Nag bag. Not sure why but it makes me happy to see them calmly grazing and nibbling away at the netted bale. With limited grass, this is an excellent option to let them graze naturally on a little grass and still have access to an acceptable amount of hay. I love it!!
All my hay nets are from nag bags. I've been pretty happy with them, going into my third year using them and only one had torn, and that was by a wild animal dragging it off into the bush. I've been using the 2" and 2.75" nets.
I love your round bale net. It significantly slows their eating down and much less mess. I've had it I believe 2 years now and it's still going strong, no rips or anything. I use it for my horses and two mini donkeys, everyone is happy...lol

Heard good reviews of the product and so far I am satisfied. Light weight, appears to be heavy duty material but easy to pull onto the bale. Horses are used to 1.75” hole size so hopefully the 2” won’t be too easy for them. Nice personal touch with the thank you card and pen.

Easy to put on, good quality rope, strong draw rope to close it. We are happy it’s slowing down the horses.

Awesome product, I ended up ordering a 2 inch for winter
Inhave 2 TWHs and for the last year 5 sheep sharing the bag. I am sure it would have lasted longer than 8 years if now for those sheep and that one time I had to use hot water and an a pickaxe to get it out of the ice. I have almost 0 lost hay. There isn't a trace left! I get a reliable number of days per bale and everybody is a healthy weight and foraging at will. I was worried about rubbed muzzels but it never happened. I tell everyone about these! Money well spent!
A boarder came to us with some nag bag day bags. We cannot use anything else now. We have a herd of three horses that were going through a round bale every three days. They are all overweight. We ordered this round bale hay net, and the bales are now lasting 5-6 days. We are saving some money and hopefully helping horses lose some weight. Highly recommend!
